Four networks,
one conference
Bogotá, Colombia
About the Conference
This joint conference in Bogotá will bring together members of our biodiversity networks, alongside hundreds of scientists, researchers, practitioners and other experts from around the world.
Come share your knowledge and experience, help us transform our understanding of the state and trends of biodiversity, and learn how together our work contributes towards conserving the living world.
Our conference will explore three main themes:
- Building standards that promote data sharing and interoperability
- Bringing together and providing access to diverse sources of information
- Monitoring our progress toward conserving and restoring the planet's biodiversity
Objectives
Promote open, interoperable data
Advance, implement and refine common standards to promote free and open exchange of and access to biodiversity data.
Support knowledge rights of Indigenous and local communities
Ensure responsible engagement and equitable collaboration with Indigenous and local peoples on biodiversity knowledge and information systems.
Train and empower the community
Build capacity for sharing and using biodiversity data across individual, institutional, national and regional scales.
Learn about innovative tools and solutions
Explore and discuss emerging technologies, platforms and approaches to integrate biodiversity information for management and monitoring.
Evaluate the state of biodiversity
Discuss data gaps and assessments of the global state of biodiversity, identifying trends and priority areas for action.
Establish biodiversity monitoring networks
Facilitate collaboration among observation networks to strengthen and expand national, regional and global-scale biodiversity monitoring networks.
Strengthen international collaboration
Promote cooperation and knowledge exchange between networks of researchers, practitioners and policymakers worldwide.
Ensure equitable participation from the Global South
Re-imagine norms for collaboration that increase inclusion, participation, justice and fairness in knowledge production and decision-making.
Integrate biodiversity into education and public life
Increase public awareness and understanding of nature's benefits to people and the role of biodiversity conservation in preserving them.
Connect science with policymakers
Encourage exchange of insights and evidence between researchers, decision-makers and other actors to ensure the translation of science into concrete policies and actions.
Accelerate progress on global goals and targets
Ensure that national and global decision-makers have access to best-available information needed to measure and advance toward GBF goals and targets.
Strategic alliance
Biodiversity Information Standards
Global standardization of biodiversity data
Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG) develops, maintains and promotes data standards for the exchanging biodiversity data. TDWG is community-driven and fosters international collaboration among those who create, manage, utilize and share knowledge about the world's biological heritage.
Global Biodiversity Information Facility
Free and open access to biodiversity data
GBIF is an international network and data infrastructure that provides open access to data on all types of life on Earth. Integrating standardized data from diverse sources, it enables basic and applied research and policy across scales and disciplines.
Ocean Biodiversity Information System
Marine biodiversity data and information
OBIS unites a global community of ocean observers, data managers, and scientists. It aims to strengthen global capacity for collecting, managing, and utilizing standardized, quality-controlled marine biodiversity data and information, supporting informed decisions on policy, conservation, and resource management.
Group on Earth Observations Biodiversity Observation Network
Coordinating global biodiversity monitoring
GEO BON is a global network that coordinates the collection and sharing of biodiversity data. As part of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS), GEO BON advances global efforts to monitor and conserve biodiversity by aligning research activities with global priorities.
